The Name of the Angel of The Lord


The Angel of the Lord saves Abraham from Elkenah.

Introduction:

So much of what I have learned and shared on this site reinforces itself; meaning, the subsequent layers of truth reinforce the former. This article is certainly the product of such reinforcement. In Auguest of 2016, while reading through a lengthy list of angel names, the spirit about knocked me out of my chair when I read the name "Jahoel - chief of the order of Seraphim." I had begun my studies on the Davidic Servant and the spirit equated Jahoel to this man. I did some searching online at the time, but was unable to find much more about him.

Two years ago, I felt impressed to search again, but to try alternate spellings of Jahoel. Sure enough, I found there were many spellings: Jahoel, Yahoel, Jehoel, and Iaoel are all variants of the name of the same angel. Interestingly enough, I could not find any source (not even here!) that equates Jahoel to the order of the Seraphim; however, through my own studies, I had equated the Davidic Servant to the head of the order of level six, or the seraphim, simply because he is the first of their order to ascend to level seven, or the order of archangels.

Humorously, the wikipedia entries on Jahoel spell his name differently depending on which article you read.

I strongly recommend reading the prior article - The Davidic Servant is The Holy Ghost is The Angel of the Lord; in this article, I link these three identities to the same person. 

In this article, I will link Jahoel to the name of the Angel of the Lord. That means this person must also align to the Davidic Covenant and to the Holy Ghost. There is plenty of evidence in the Apocalypse of Abraham to tie all of these aspects together to Jahoel. Jahoel is the name of the Angel of the Lord. The hidden aspect of the Davidic Servant or Angel of the Lord, is reinforced by the fact that there are so many spellings of the name Jahoel, and his name is still largely unknown to Christianity and Mormondom. If the angel's identity is hidden, why would he reveal his name to Abraham? I will address that answer as well in this article.


Part I The Angel of the Lord


Joseph Smith identified # 1 as "The Angel of the Lord." Is that a Horus Falcton?


The Angel of the Lord was discussed at length in the prior article. Scriptures linking the individual called "The Angel of the Lord," or "His Angel," and "My Angel," (when Jehovah is speaking) are found throughout all our standard works. Here is a review of some of the appearances of the Angel of the Lord.

Abraham 3:20 - Saves Abraham from Elkenah
Exodus 3:2 - Appears in the burning bush to Moses
Joshua 5:13-15 - Appears to Joshua as the Captain of the Lord's hosts.
Exodus 23:20-23 - The Lord announces His angel as protector of Israel and commands His people to obey the angel.
D&C 103:15-20 - The Lord contrasts the end times to the Exodus of Israel where His angel led Israel before but He and His angels will lead them at last.
Revelation 1:1 - The Revelation of Jesus Christ ... and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John.
Luke 2:9-10 - The angel of the Lord announces Jesus birth to the shepherds. 
Judges 13:17-18 - The angel of the Lord refuses to give his name for it is secret.

Most of these scriptures were shared in the prior article, which gives a full breakdown of each. Though the appearances of the angel are not limited to these, all standard works are represented above. The prophecies of the Davidic Servant are also in all standard works. Obviously, the scriptures on the Holy Ghost are also covered in all standard works. Let's take a closer look at the Apocalypse of Abraham and discover more about the angel Jahoel, link him to these three other identities, and find out why he reveals his name to Abraham.

Joseph F. Smith was the editor of the New Era at this time, serving as second counselor in the first presidency. Here is an excerpt from the editor's note above:

In January there appeared in one of the popular daily journals of San Francisco an account of what was called "A Remarkable New Version of the Apocalypse of Abraham," by Professor G. Nathanael Bonwetchs, of the University of Goettingen, Germany; and then followed a partial translation of the same. In some of its passages the writer observed many things of a character both as to incidents and doctrines that ran parallel with what is recorded in the Book of Abraham, given to the world by Joseph Smith in 1836 (?). Especially was this true in relation to the idolatrous character of Abraham's immediate forefathers, his call to depart from them, the future promise of a special inheritance, the fact of his receiving a special revelation from God, making known great things concerning the structure of heavens and the earth, the pre-existence of the spirits of men, and the choice of certain of them to be God's rulers in the earth, Abraham being among them. ~ Note from Editor. Improvement Era, Vol 1 No 10, 1898.

I should note that the earliest known version of the Apocalypse of Abraham was 1863, years after Joseph Smith's martyrdom. The dating of the manuscript is from 70 - 150 AD and is identified as Jewish in origin and likely a transcript of earlier writings and tradition possibly kept from the time of Abraham.1

In the LDS publication, the editor italicized a few passages that reinforce the Book of Abraham published in the Pearl of Great Price. Below is an excerpt:




The final paragraph in the image above is central to the identification of the angel Jahoel as the passage helps define the scope of the dominion of the Davidic Servant; this will be explored more in Part V - The Dominion. Before we can attach the dominion to Jahoel, let's explore first what the Apocalypse of Abraham reveals about this angel.


Part III The Name of the Angel of the Lord

Though the translations of the Apocalypse of Abraham I use spell "Iaoel" as the name of the angel, I prefer to use the version "Jehoel" for two reasons: First, the name in hebrew contains part of the name YHWH which we translate as Jehovah. Second, the name is closely linked to the name Elijah, which I will explore in depth in Part VI. I will use different spellings of the name throughout the article depending on the context. Here is how Jahoel (Iaoel) introduces himself to Abraham in the Apocalypse of Abraham (my notes in parentheses:)

3. And while I was still face down on the ground, I heard the voice speaking, "Go, Iaoel of the same name, through the meditation of my ineffable 
4. name, consecrate this man for me and strengthen him against his trembling." The angel he sent to me in the likeness of a man came, and he took me by my right 
5. hand and stood me on my feet. And he said to me, "Stand up, (Arise) Abraham, friend 
6. of God who has loved you, let human trembling not enfold you! For lo! I am sent to you to strengthen you and to bless you in the name of God, creator of heavenly 
7.(8.) and earthly things, who has loved you. Be bold and hasten to him. I am Iaoel and I was called so by him who causes those with me on the seventh expanse, on the firmament, to shake, a power through the medium of his ineffable name in 

9. me. I am the one who has been charged according to his commandment, to restrain the threats of the living creatures of the cherubim against one another, and I teach those who carry the song through the medium of man’s night of the seventh hour.

First, the Lord identifies Jahoel (Iaoel) as "of the same name." This only appears in one of the translations (the improvement era is a different translation than the two linked above,) and yet this morsel is extremely important. What does "of the same name" mean? What could it mean? Certainly, I am of the same name of my father, and yet I am also of the same name of anyone who shares any part of my name--first, middle, or last. Here, I believe the meaning is both. We will explore more the meaning of "Jahoel" in part IV; however, let's break down the name Jahoel.

In Hebrew, Jahoel - יהואלis comprised of two names: YAHU - יהו and EL - אל. YAHU is the first three characters of the four-lettered tetragrammaton, or the name of the LORD in Hebrew - YHWH: יהוה  (underlined.) So, when the Lord says, "God Iaoel of the same name," He may mean it literally. 

Second, Jahoel is commanded to consecrate Abraham through the mediation of the Lord's ineffable name. What's interesting here, is that all priesthood holders mediate through the name of Jesus Christ. Yet, a secret is suggested as indicated by the adjective, "ineffable" (2 out of 3 translations use ineffable.) From Meriam Webster:

Ineffable
a : incapable of being expressed in words : indescribable ineffable joy

Jehovah, which is derived from Yehovah, which is derived from YHWH, may just be a placeholder for Jehovah's true name. Iaoel, therefore, may also be a placeholder, derived from a placeholder. All of this, ties into the sixth promise of overcoming, which is a revelation of true names.

Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

I have made the case since the beginning of this blog, that the Davidic Servant is the first in this Earth's history to overcome the sixth promise of revelation, which event is represented in Revelation 12, or the sign in heaven of a woman giving birth to a son who is to rule all nations with a rod of iron. The question becomes, to whom is she birthing this son? 

Finally, in verse 9, Iaoel / Jahoel identifies himself as he who teaches "those who carry the song through the medium of man’s night of the seventh hour."  The alternate translation reads: "the song of the seventh hour of the night of man." Well, according to the Book of Revelation and the interpretation provided by the Lord in D&C 77:6-7, the seventh hour is upon us, and is indeed the heart of the subject matter of the Book of Revelation! Is there any indication in the Book of Revelation of those "who carry the song through the medium of man's night of the seventh hour?" The 144,000, who the angel ascending from the east says must all be called before the opening of the seventh seal (or seventh hour,) sing a unique song: 

Revelation 14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.
2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:
3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

Note, the 144,000 are aligned to the sixth promise of overcoming. They have the name of God sealed (unopened) in their foreheads because they are on the cusp of overcoming. I had already aligned the Davidic Servant to the head of this order (the order of Seraphim,) and aligned them both to Enoch, to the Law of Chastity, and to the color Indigo on the rainbow, which is between purple and blue. This song of the seventh hour is yet another layer of confirmation of who this angel is and what he is about.

I believe firmly that "of the same name" also speaks of the relationship of this angel to the Lord Jehovah Himself. 


Part IV The High Priest

Apocalypse of Abraham 
Chapter 11
1. And I stood up and saw him who had taken my right hand and set me on my
2. feet. The appearance of his body was like sapphire, and the aspect of his face 
3. was like chrysolite, and the hair of his head like snow. And a kidaris (was) on his head, its look that of a rainbow, and the clothing of his garments (was) purple;
4. and a golden staff (was) in his right hand.

And he said to me, "Abraham," And I said, "Here is your servant!" And he said, "Let my appearance not frighten
5. you, nor my speech trouble your soul. Come with me! And I will go with you

6. visible until the sacrifice, but after the sacrifice invisible forever. Be bold and go!"

The appearance of Jahoel is the central key to unlocking the mystery of his identity. The gems used to describe Jahoel align to some of the stones of the high priest's breastplate, and may even be a foreshadowing symbolizing two birthrights, where each gem represents a tribe. The hair like snow has been a descriptor used for Michael in Daniel. 

In verse 4, the alternate translation has Jahoel wielding a golden scepter rather than a golden staff. The german translation published in the Improvement Era also uses the word, "scepter." This is obviously a symbol of dominion - celestial (gold) dominion. 

Jahoel tells Abraham in verse 6 that after Abraham's sacrifice he will be invisible forever. The alternate translation reads, "always invisible." In my third article on the Book of Enoch and the Davidic Servant, I dedicate the bulk of the article to the eternal, hidden nature of the Davidic Servant. In fact, in writing that third article, I was no longer able to deny the link of the Davidic Servant to the Elect (chosen) One and to the Holy Ghost. Yet with this new puzzle piece, suddenly other scriptures in the Old Testament become clear. The following are the verses that follow Jacob wrestling with "the angel" to secure himself a blessing.

Genesis 32:27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

So, Jacob asks for the angel's name, and the angel does not give it, thus remaining invisible "after the sacrifice [of Isaac] as he stated to Abraham. Here is the scripture linked in Part I that was shared in the prior article. This event was the angel of the Lord announcing the coming of Samson, which took place years "after the sacrifice."

Judges 13:17 And Manoah said unto the angel of the Lord, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?

18 And the angel of the Lord said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?

This is the same angel Iaoel, only just as he promised, he has gone "invisible." "Wait," you may be thinking, "But his name is written in the Apocalypse of Abraham!" Well, have you heard or seen this name before? In the unlikely event that you have, did you know this Iaoel was the Holy Ghost, and the Davidic Servant and the Angel of the Lord?

In my prior article, I share one of the most compelling scriptures on the identity and mission of the Holy Ghost in Hebrews Chapter 9:

Hebrews 9:7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:

8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:

Restating, Paul reveals that the High Priest passing the second veil into the Holy of Holies once a year on Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, signifies the Holy Ghost making the way into the holiest of all manifest. Paul shares the contents of the Ark as well in Hebrews 9:

Hebrews 9:3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
5 And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.

Notice all the gold! Gold is also used throughout the High Priest's vesture, and the scepter of Jehoel is golden as well. The manna, Aaron's rod, and the tablets of the covenant--all are symbols of eternal progression, and in particular, this one event: The Holy Ghost ascending to the father and being born spiritually to Jehovah. A Father cannot exist without a Son, and vice Versa. The Son (Jehovah) becomes a Father and the new Son, The Holy Ghost, becomes an unconditional inheritor of Godhood himself.


Joseph also said that the Holy Ghost is now in a state of probation which if he should perform in righteousness he may pass through the same or a similar course of things that the Son has. (Franklin D. Richards (First Presidency) The Words of Joseph Smith, p. 245; standardized)

Where am I going with this? Iaoel's clothing in chapter 11, verse 3 reinforces the identity of Iaoel as the Holy Ghost. He is wearing a Kidaris (Cidaris) or a Turban in the alternate translation. Both "Cidaris "and "Turban" are used to describe what the High Priest wears on his head. In the King James Version, this head piece is called a "Mitre."

Exodus 28:36 ¶ And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.
37 And thou shalt put it on a blue lace, that it may be upon the mitre; upon the forefront of the mitre it shall be.
38 And it shall be upon Aaron’s forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before the Lord.

In addition to the mitre, a golden crown is worn by the High Priest that reads: HOLINESS TO THE LORD--the same inscription we LDS have on all our temples. This crown symbolizes the end of that journey, and the mystery of that transition from being a man to becoming a God. Notice how Aaron, or the High Priest, wears that crown of a symbol of he himself bearing the iniquities of the holy things. In the prior two articles (linked above,) I explore Leviticus 16, the ordinace of Yom Kippur, or Day of Atonement, and how there are two goats. One goat is sacrificed (For YHWH) and the other is sacrificed (For AZAZEL.) The second goat bears the sins of Israel. There are many scriptures that indicate that the Davidic Servant / The Holy Ghost bears these iniquities himself. Below is an image of the High Priest:

Here is chapter 11, verse 3 of the Apocalypse of Abraham again:

3. was like chrysolite, and the hair of his head like snow. And a kidaris (was) on his head, its look that of a rainbow, and the clothing of his garments (was) purple;

Now, this is not a one-for-one representation of the High Priest's vesture; however the similarities are compelling. They both wear a cidaris, and the color purple is very close to the color of the ephod, which is blue:

Exodus 28:31 ¶ And thou shalt make the robe of the ephod all of blue.

Indigo, is the color of the rainbow aligned to the seraphim, or level six. Indigo is half-way between blue and purple. So where one account reads "blue" and the other "purple" - these could very well both be indigo, which would symbolize the current station of the High Priest.

What about the ephod and the other pieces in the image above that appear to be purple? In fact, the colors, blue, purple, and scarlet are the colors that were commanded to be interwoven throughout the ephod, the girdle, and the hem of the robes. 

Exodus 28:5 And they shall take gold, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen.
6 ¶ And they shall make the ephod of gold, of blue, and of purple, of scarlet, and fine twined linen, with cunning work.
7 It shall have the two shoulderpieces thereof joined at the two edges thereof; and so it shall be joined together.
8 And the curious girdle of the ephod, which is upon it, shall be of the same, according to the work thereof; even of gold, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen.

Why three colors, and what could these three colors represent? A possible interpretation is also aligned to the rainbow's symbolism of the seven levels of mankind. The 4th promise of overcoming is the first promise of dominion.

Revelation 2:26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
28 And I will give him the morning star.

Remember, the promised reward is received in the following level. So level five is the first dominion. Level six, and level seven are the following two dominions. These three levels align to the last three colors of the rainbow, which, coincidentally, are all shades of purple and blue. Have a look at the lowest three colors on the image below and compare to the color of the ephod, girdle, and shoulder pieces.



Scarlet is not a color of the rainbow. However, scarlet is a combination of blue and red. The final color of the rainbow, violet, is also a combination of blue and red where scarlet has less blue than violet. In the image below, violet is in the center where scarlet is the border color:




You can see the similarity--the subtle difference is something that easily may have been lost in translation or a limitation. As mentioned earlier, the final three colors of the rainbow align to the levels of dominion. The entire rainbow itself can also be a symbol of the dominion over all mankind; or it could represent the accomplishment of achieving the seventh level or order of mankind.

Revelation 10:1 And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:

I believe that Jahoel's turban / cidaris is a symbol of the crown and dominion to which he is aspiring. I believe the Davidic Servant / Jahoel is the angel in Revelation 10:1, and in the next section I will discuss the dominion of Jahoel, which is a sub-dominion of Michael's. Facsimile 3 teaches the eternal principle of sitting on the throne at the behest of someone else.



Thus, the rainbow-colored turban may symbolize the dominion that has been granted to Iaoel at the behest of Michael. Bear this symbolism in mind while viewing Arnold Frieberg's beautiful painting of Moses' ordination of Aaron:




Who does Moses represent in this image? And, who does Aaron represent? Aaron's yearly approach on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, to the Holy of Holies symbolizes the ascension of the Holy Ghost. And, as Christ fulfilled the Spring Festivals, the Holy Ghost will one day fulfill Yom Kippur, which is the holiest of fall festivals. 

Though, the two witnesses is beyond the scope of this article, consider that one of the two witnesses may be the Angel of the Lord in the flesh whose death and resurrection are the literal fulfillment of what Aaron, the high priest robes, and the Ark of the Covenant all symbolize. What better way to hide the importance of this "invisible" angel than to speak of two witnesses. Imagine if there were only one. What would Christianity think of one man being dead for 3.5 days and resurrecting after? The verses below begin with their resurrection:

Revelation 11:12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.
13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.
14 The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.
15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
16 And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,
17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.
18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

Finally, the High Priest is to wear the Urim and Thummim inside his breastplate when he approaches the mercy seat once a year on Yom Kippur. 

Exodus 28:30 ¶ And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron’s heart, when he goeth in before the Lord: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the Lord continually.

According to the Talmud, there was also a piece of parchment that went behind the breastplate along with the Urim and Thummim with the name of God written upon it (Talmud, Yoma 73b.) This is an amazing coincidence given the fact that the Davidic Servant / Angel of the Lord / Holy Ghost is aligned both to the sixth promise of revelation (Revelation 3:12) and to the ordinance of Yom Kippur (Hebrews 9.) The high priest of Israel represents the person to whom the true name of God and the new name of Jesus Christ will be revealed:

Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.


Part V The Dominion

Apart from how Jehoel is dressed, a larger confirmation as to the identity of Jehoel is his dominion.

Apocalypse of Abraham
Chapter 10
10. I am appointed to hold the Leviathans, because through me is subjugated the 
11. attack and menace of every reptile. I am ordered to loosen Hades and to destroy 
12. those who wondered at the dead. I am the one who ordered you father’s house 
13. to be burned with him, for he honored the dead. I am sent to you now to bless you and the land which he whom you have called the Eternal One has prepared 
14.(15.) for you. For your sake I have indicated the way of the land. Stand up, Abraham, go boldly, be very joyful and rejoice. And I (also rejoice) with you, for a venerable

16. honor has been prepared for you by the Eternal One. Go, complete the sacrifice of the command, Behold, I am assigned (to be) with you and with the generation 
17. which is predestined (to be born) from you. And with me Michael blesses you forever. Be bold, go!"

First, Iaoel identifies himself as he who holds the Leviathans (alt. restrain the Leviathan.) This ties into several scriptures regarding the Davidic Servant:

Isaiah 51:9 ¶ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?


Isaiah 27:1 In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

Isaiah 51:9, in particular, is a prophecy where the Lord references the heavenly deeds of the Davidic Servant while he is in the flesh, to awaken him to his identity. "Rahab" may also be translated to mean "leviathan." 

Secondly, as discussed in the prior two articles, the Holy Ghost / Angel of the Lord calls forth the dead by the sounding of his own trump:

D&C 88:98 They are Christ’s, the first fruits, they who shall descend with him first, and they who are on the earth and in their graves, who are first caught up to meet him; and all this by the voice of the sounding of the trump of the angel of God.

Check. Check. 

Finally, and most importantly, Jehoel comes right out and tells Abraham he is assigned to Abraham to be with him and his posterity. Alternate translation:

Chapter 11
7 ... For lo! I have been appointed to be with you, and with the generations that will spring from you, and with me Michael blesses you for ever. Be of good cheer and go!

This could only be clearer if Jehoel threw the word "dominion" in there somewhere. Verse 7 above links Abraham to the vision of Abraham 3 where "one like unto the son of man" is chosen to help test "them" to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord commands. More on this in a moment. In chapters 21 and 22, the Lord shows Abraham a vision of people who are divided into two groups. Abraham asks the Lord for an interpretation:

33. And I said, "0 Lord, Mighty and Eternal! Who are the people in this picture on this side and that?" And He said to me, "Those who are on the left side are all those, born before your day and afterwards, some destined for judgment and restoration, and others for vengeance and cutting off at the end of the age. But those on the right side of the picture, they are the people who have been set apart for me, and whom I have ordained to be born of your line and called my people, even some of those who derive from Azazel. 

This short verse is extremely interesting. Why didn't God settle the twelve tribes of Israel in Adam's day or Enoch's day, or even Noah's day? The twelve tribes of Israel are Abraham's great grandsons. The birthright skips Abraham's son Ishmael, and skips Isaac's son Esau, and yet are retained to some degree by all of Israel's sons, though the birthright passed to Joseph in particular. 

This division of souls on both sides includes both blessed and cursed souls, yet only those on the right side are included as Abraham's posterity, including the cursed souls who followed the devil (Azazel.) Why is this important? For starters, the mention of Azazel ties directly to Abraham 3 and the choosing of the one "like unto God."

Abraham 3:27 And the Lord said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man: Here am I, send me. And another answered and said: Here am I, send me. And the Lord said: I will send the first.
28 And the second was angry, and kept not his first estate; and, at that day, many followed after him.

This is huge! The vision of Abraham 3 wasn't random! Abraham wasn't just one of the noble and great ones. The Lord was showing him his posterity and the choosing of the man who would sit on the throne of becoming. The Lord links the division of souls where those on his right are the only ones tied to Azazel even though there are cursed souls on his left as well. In Abraham 3:27, the Lord is sending someone - who? - to do - what exactly? This is the dominion of becoming a God that begins with Abraham, and Azazel is linked to this subset. To help further shed light on this understanding, the flood itself symbolizes this division and even symbolizes the fact that the souls who came before are older. They lived to be much older where their lifespans approached nearly a thousand years! The first three dispensations align to the highest three levels of mankind, which also symbolizes the fact that this was the time of older souls. This is why we had such a divide between the wicked and the righteous where the righteous were gathered to the City of Enoch and why there was a final judgement. What does the flood represent if not a microcosm of judgement and newness? We already know that the scope of Abraham 3 is this world:

Abraham 3:24 And there stood one among them that was like unto God, and he said unto those who were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell;
25 And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;
26 And they who keep their first estate shall be added upon; and they who keep not their first estate shall not have glory in the same kingdom with those who keep their first estate; and they who keep their second estate shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever.

Who are "these" in verse 24? There is an enormous clue in verse 25 that has been hiding in plain sight all along. "To see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them" is not the people of Earth but Israel!

I have already speculated that the person in verse 27 who is "like unto the Son of Man" is the Davidic Servant in this article, though I may update the article as I am thoroughly convinced at this point as to the identity of the one like unto the Son of Man. Azazel and Iaoel were vying for the same position. The divine aspect of this dominion is related to Abraham by Iaoel while Abraham was fasting for 40 days. Jehoel (Iaoel) teaches Abraham a song he must sing verbatim (alternate translation in parentheses.)

What you have promised me.

Verse 13 indicates that the prayer is to Iaoel (Jehoel.) There is a lot of information here to reinforce that understanding as well as link the identity of the Angel Iaoel to the Davidic Servant and to The Holy Ghost! 

Holy Ghost: Verse 14 - Iaoel is the protector. Verse 16 - he receives petitions, but is particular to those with the Gift of the Holy Ghost. Verse 20 - his involvement with prayer. Verse 17 - the sanctifying power of the Holy Ghost who participates in the Atonement. Verse 21 - the baptism of fire / Holy Ghost is alluded to. Verse 21 - teacher, revealer. Verse 21 - The Holy Spirit of Promise.

Davidic Servant: Verse 8 - Mighty One (see Isaiah 28 and D&C 85:7.) Verse 10 - Overcoming level six can only occur after complete self-mastery. Verse 11 - His current status as seraph (fiery one) is identified. Verse 15 - His voice is like thunder because he is on the cusp of joining the seven thunders (archangels) themselves (see Revelation 10:3-4.) Verse 18 - The age of the just aligns to Isaiah 11. Verses 18-19 - He is a light to the gentiles (see Isaiah 49:6.)

And why "unbegotten" in verse 9? The ministry of the Davidic Servant and the fulfillment of the heavenly birth in Revelation 12 is the Davidic Servant receiving the promise of his eternal inheritance as he is begotten spiritually to Jehovah (see the Franklin Richards quote in the prior section on the Holy Ghost going on to the same or similar course as the Son once he overcomes his probation.)

Genesis 22:11 And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.
15 ¶ And the angel of the Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

Notice how the angel of the Lord in Genesis 22 says, "Abraham, Abraham" who the responds, "Here am I." This is exactly how Abraham and Iaoel interact throughout the Apocalypse of Abraham. Moreover, notice the lack of "Thus saith the Lord" in verse 12. The angel appears to have an established relationship with Abraham and tells Abraham he did not withhold his son from himIaoel was the angel who appeared to Abraham to stop the sacrifice!


Part VI Elias is Jahoel

Now that we have established the dominion of Iaoel / Jahoel / Jehoel / Yahoel, are there any modern-day indications as to the identity of Iaoel? Well let's see if we can reverse engineer this! We know the dominion of Iaoel is Israel. We know the Davidic Servant is set to gather Israel and restore Israel to the knowledge of their God. We have established that the angel ascending from the east is the angel of Lord as his dominion over the Seraphim, or the 144,000 align to the sixth promise of overcoming, which also aligns to Jahoel's ascension! Here is a nice scripture that ties all of these facts together and lays a modern day name placeholder for this person

D&C 77:9 Q. What are we to understand by the angel ascending from the east, Revelation 7th chapter and 2nd verse?

A. We are to understand that the angel ascending from the east is he to whom is given the seal of the living God over the twelve tribes of Israel; wherefore, he crieth unto the four angels having the everlasting gospel, saying: Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. And, if you will receive it, this is Elias which was to come to gather together the tribes of Israel and restore all things.

Elias. If you like being confused, study Elias. Elias is the Greek iteration of Elijah. Yet Elias is a separate person than Elijah. Yet Elias is an office and not a person. Yet John the Baptist is Elias, or Elijah rather. See what I mean? Well, perhaps Elias is deliberately confusing so as to mask the identity of the angel who is hidden. Let's see if we can decipher this mystery.

Let's look at what we know about Elias before we break down the name by looking at what the Prophet Joseph Smith had to say on the matter:

"The spirit of Elias is to prepare the way for a greater revelation of God, which is the Priesthood of Elias, or the Priesthood unto which Aaron was ordained. And when God sends a man into the world to prepare for a greater work, holding the keys of the power of Elias, it was called the doctrine of Elias, even from the early ages of the world…. We find the Apostles endowed with greater power than John [the Baptist]: their office was more under the spirit and power of Elijah than Elias" ~ Jospeh Smith, Tpjs, pp. 335-36

So Joseph Smith aligns Elias to Aaron. Wow, we just did a whole section on the High Priest who was originally Aaron! Again, look at the image of Moses and Aaron. Who does Moses represent? Who does Aaron represent? Let's look at another qutoe:

This is the Elias spoken of in the last days, and here is the rock upon which many split, thinking the time was past in the days of John and Christ, and no more to be. But the spirit of Elias was revealed to me, and I know it is true; therefore I speak with boldness, for I know verily my doctrine is true. ~ Jospeh Smith, Tpjs, pp. 336-37

So it sounds as though Joseph Smith is speaking of a person in this quote; however he refers to "the spirit of Elias" as "it" which signifies as a less tangible "spirit" or idea rather than someone's actual spirit that requires a body. Let's look at another:

The spirit of Elias is first, Elijah second, and Messiah last. Elias is a forerunner to prepare the way, and the spirit and power of Elijah is to come after, holding the keys of power, building the Temple to the capstone, placing the seals of the Melchizedek Priesthood upon the house of Israel, and making all things ready; then Messiah comes to His Temple, which is last of all…. Elijah was to come and prepare the way and build up the kingdom before the coming of the great day of the Lord, although the spirit of Elias might begin it ~ Jospeh Smith, Tpjs, p. 340

OK, notice the verbiage here indicates the prophet is speaking of successive phases rather than a person or persons. Notice he doesn't say "the Messiah." In fact, he has deliberately left off "the" which is an important key to unlocking this mystery. Placing the seals on Israel and making things ready is certainly the mission of the Davidic Servant, but shouldn't he be Elias rather than Elijah? And why is it "Messiah" rather than "the messiah." The answer is these are three phases of the same person! He prepares, seals Israel, and becomes the Lord's anointed. These are what the scriptures in Isaiah, Psalms, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Malachi, etc. are all pointing to! There is an intimacy between the Lord Jehovah and His anointed. 

Psalm 2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord (YHWH), and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Pslam 2 is a prophecy of the Lord Jehovah's anointed. His son. Verses 6 and 9 are strong links to the Davidic Servant prophecies of Isaiah. The Rod of iron is mentioned which ties to Revelation 12 and the scepter wielded by Jehoel. Verse 7 is key - I believe verse 7 is a direct tie to the fulfillment of Yom Kippur - the Day of At-One-Ment where the Davidic Servant atones for himself and his house by the blood of the Lamb and then atones for Israel by the same. The name of God, sealed in his heart, is unveiled. The new name of Jesus Christ is unveiled - and what is the new role to go along with the new name? That of Father. A Father cannot exist without a Son. The day the Angel Ioael is spiritually begotten by Jehovah is the day Jehovah takes the next step and becomes a Father Himself. Let's now look at the individual Elias.

JST Matthew 17:14 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist, and also of another who should come and restore all things, as it is written by the prophets.

There are a lot of JSTs of Elias in the New Testament. JST Matthew 17:14 is yet another example of why Elias is such a confusing topic. Elias is John the Baptist and also another person. Huh? Let's look at the spelling of Iaoel again.

YHWH: יהוה
YAHU: יהו
EL: אל
ELIJAH: אליה (Only used in 2 Kings 1:3-12 and Malachi 4:5)
ELIJAHU: אליהו (All other uses of Elijah)
Jahoel: יהואל

To be clear, the vast majority of the uses of the english word "Elijah" in the Old Testament is ELIJAHU. There are only two chapters that use the abbreviated version--one of them is, not coincidentally, the very promise of Malachi 4:5 at the end of the Old Testament where Elijah will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children.

Jahoel / Jehoel / Iaoel / Yahoel is the exact same two hebrew words (EL אל and YAHU יהו) that comprise ELIJAHU but inverted. Hebrew is read backwards, so YAHU יהו comes first (last), followed by EL אל. Remember, the Lord says Iaoel is "of the same name" as His ineffible name, meaning Iaoel is also likely a placeholder just as Jehovah is. Let's view perhaps the most important scripture to unlock the meaning of the name Elias attributed to the individual by the same name.

D&C 110:12 After this, Elias appeared, and committed the dispensation of the gospel of Abraham, saying that in us and our seed all generations after us should be blessed.

Boom! We have a scripture that ties the name Elias - the Greek derivative of the same name as Iaoel, only inverted - to Abraham himself and his dispensation. Why would anyone other than Abraham commit the keys to his dispensation, unless someone is sitting on Abraham's throne at his behest. Wow, that sounds familiar!




The person Elias has always been a mystery to latter-day saints in this scripture. Here is an exceprt from the LDS Bible Dictionary:

(4) A man called Elias apparently lived in mortality in the days of Abraham, who committed the dispensation of the gospel of Abraham to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery in the Kirtland (Ohio) Temple on April 3, 1836 (D&C 110:12). We have no specific information as to the details of his mortal life or ministry. ~ LDS Bible Dictionary - Elias

Hrm ... that almost seems like the name Elias is purposefully hidden. Add the difference between the spirit of Elias, the relationship to John the Baptist, and Elias seems to be intentionally encoded as a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma--like the Lord has hidden this person on purpose! But, doesn't D&C 110:12 suddenly make sense! Iaoel is the spiritual equivalent to Abraham, who is "set over" Abraham and his posterity -  to become a prince forever over the house of Israel. 

Ezekiel 37:25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children’s children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.

Finally, let's look at why Joseph Smith used the name Elias to encode this mystery. What is Elias if not an alternate spelling of Elijah, and what is YAHUEL יהואל if not an alternate spelling of ELIYAHU אליהו? What is the Holy Ghost if not a forerunner to Christ? What is Christ if not a forerunner to God the Father? As the person Elias / Jahoel progresses from "Elias" to "Elijah" to "Messiah," his individual journey is a microcosm of not only the heavenly trinity itself but of eternal progression on a larger scale. Jehovah's dominion is worlds. Jehoel's dominion is a subset of one of His worlds which is Michael's dominion. Jehoel to Michael to Jehovah. 


Part VII Conclusion

Why did Jehoel reveal his name to Abraham alone? Jehoel's name is revealed at the beginning of his dominion. The Ark symbolizes not only his dominion but his mission. In Abraham three, there are two characters in addition to the Lord (Jehovah.) There is one "like unto God" and one "like unto the Son of Man." The one like unto God is Michael and the one like unto the Son of Man is Jehoel. Let's look at these verses one more time:

Abraham 3:22 Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham, the intelligences that were organized before the world was; and among all these there were many of the noble and great ones;
23 And God saw these souls that they were good, and he stood in the midst of them, and he said: These I will make my rulers; for he stood among those that were spirits, and he saw that they were good; and he said unto me: Abraham, thou art one of them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born.
24 And there stood one among them that was like unto God (Michael), and he said unto those who were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth (Michael's dominion) whereon these (who are these?) may dwell;
25 And we will prove them (Israel) herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;
26 And they who keep their first estate shall be added upon; and they who keep not their first estate shall not have glory in the same kingdom with those who keep their first estate; and they who keep their second estate shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever.
27 And the Lord (Jehovah) said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man (Jehoel): Here am I, send me. And another (Azazel) answered and said: Here am I, send me. And the Lord said: I will send the first.

28 And the second was angry, and kept not his first estate; and, at that day, many followed after him.

Again, this was not a random revelation to Abraham. This was Abraham's dominion with Jehoel set to rule over them to become a prince forever over Israel. 

So a mysterious individual named Elias restores the keys to the dispensation of the gospel of Abraham. Why not Abraham himself? Because like Jehovah who sits on Elohim's throne and rules at his behest, Jehoel sits on Abraham's throne and rules at Abraham's behest. The dominion is Israel which is... Abraham's posterity!

Let's return to D&C 110 one more time in conclusion. 

D&C 110:12 After this, Elias appeared, and committed the dispensation of the gospel of Abraham, saying that in us and our seed all generations after us should be blessed.
13 After this vision had closed, another great and glorious vision burst upon us; for Elijah the prophet, who was taken to heaven without tasting death, stood before us, and said:
14 Behold, the time has fully come, which was spoken of by the mouth of Malachi—testifying that he [Elijah] should be sent, before the great and dreadful day of the Lord come—

After this vision had closed, another great and glorious vision burts [burst] upon them, for Elijah, the Prophet, who was taken to Heaven without tasting death, also stood before them, and said, behold the time has fully come which was spoken of by the mouth of Malachi, testifying, that he should be sent before the great and dreadful day of the Lord come, to turn the hearts of the Fathers to the children, and the children to the fathers, lest the whole earth be smitten with a curse.

Pesky pronouns! Yet, notice the change in verse 12 was originally "them" and not "us and our seed." Who is them? Them is Elias (Iaoel) and Abraham! Also, the original "he" bolded above in verse 14 lacked the name Elijah in brackets ... just as I suspected. Verse 14 is a reference to Malachi 4:5, one of the two instances where Elijah is spelled differently! Elijah is obviously an important aspect to the end times and in identifying the end times servant. Elijah's ministry was one of intercession against Israel according to Paul:

Romans 11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,
3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

Isaiah named one of his three sons "A remnant shall return." The meaning of the inversion of the name Elijah is also in the inverse ministry of Yahuel! Whereas Elijah - ELIYAHU - interceded against wicked Israelites and preserved a remnant against Israel's destruction, YAHUEL will intercede for Israel and will preserve the remnant towards Israel's restoration.

There is much more to say about Elijah, about Jahoel, and about the Apocalypse of Abraham, but the time is nigh to wrap up this article. As if there weren't enough awesome and amazing pearls, there is yet one more that ties the Apocalypse of Abraham to the Elect One of the Book of Enoch (see my articles on such.)

Chapter 31

61. And then I will sound the trumpet out of the air, and will send my Elect One, having in Him all my power in one measure, and He shall summon my despised people from all nations, and I will send fire upon those who have insulted them and who have ruled over them in this age. And I will give those who have covered me with mockery to the scorn of the coming age, and I have prepared them to be food for the fires of Hades, and perpetual flight through the air in the underworld, for they shall see the righteousness of the Creator, and those whom He now honours, and they shall he ashamed, for I had hoped that they would come to me in repentance, rather than loving strange gods, but they forsook the Mighty Lord, and went the way that they willed to go.

The Elect One of Jehovah, or the "Chosen One" of Jehovah, or Jehovah's anointed ties to the prophecies of the Book of Enoch and Isaiah. "Power" and "righteousness" are key words associated with the Davidic Servant (Isaiah 11:1-5, D&C 85:7.) Sending fire links directly to the Book of Enoch, Isaiah 11, and Revelation 11 as I covered in my second article in the series on the Book of Enoch.

Just as the revelation of the selection of Jehoel to Abraham is no coincidence, the revelation of the Elect One is no coincidence either as Jehoel is the Elect One. This may be the first identification of the angel name of the Holy Ghost. I publish this article within the 50 day period between passover and pentecost in 2018 as the 50th Jubilee year comes to a close. Jubilee means "trumpet" and Pentecost means "50th" and is related to Jubilee in the Septuagint. Seven weeks or seven times seven plus one is the period of time between passover and the final spring holy day of Shavuot, or the feast of harvest. This day also represents the day the Law was given to Israel by the Angel of the Lord, which is now kept inside the Ark of the Covenant. Finally, penetcost is the day - 50 days after the Lord's fulfillment of Passover - that the Holy Ghost was poured out upon the Apostles.

    When God speaks and we obey, we will always be right

    Children, please lend an ear to me for a moment. This is very important. I have an errand from the Lord to communicate to all and each of you and your mother included.

    I was given a strict charge and an admonition from God in 1993 even before any of you were born by his prophet, even a Patriarch in Israel, to teach you all the gospel I can to the best of my abilities.

    This charge is generally given to all parents in Zion, but more particularly to the High Priests of the Order or Aaron. If I fail to do it, your sin will be upon my own head. I cannot delegate this responsibility to anyone, not even the church or your very own mother.

    This burden has to do with the first four commandments of God to his people and the nature of idolatry in these latter-days and how it is affecting our lives today.

    Another reason I do this is that need to impress is that the Lord also told me with your own Godsend Mission, which to help you with a very important mission which you received before you were born for which you were primordially sent to this earth, which is to help prepare the way for the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

    This is what the Patriarch Morgan Bates told me on the 23rd day of February, 1993:
    “You have another mission also, and that is in your studies as you begin to have children that you will teach them all the gospel you can. Otherwise, the sin will be upon your head, for you are admonished to teach your children to the very best of your ability, the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ”…..

    “Your ancestors and your family will follow your lead, for you are to be given righteousness. Now as for your children, they have a mission also. They have been sent here to prepare the way for the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, it will be your duty, along with your wife, to help them prepare for this mission.”

    This is to do what John the Baptist did, which is to be an Elias or a forerunner, a harbinger, a herald of salvation, bearer of good or bad news, a comforter for the people or a portent, a preparer of the way.

    “Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

    Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.

    The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”

    The word Elias is a name and also an office of the holy priesthood and an officer in the kingdom of God. Our most important responsibility as holders of the birth right, is to bless all the families of the earth which is no small task.

    The word Elias has many meanings, such as God is my Help, but one not found in the scriptures is Guide, Director or Compass. We are the Lord’s guides as in the world Liahona which interpreted means Guide Home! We guide people to God and his kingdom; and we show them the path to follow. We are not the light, but witnesses of the light.
